EVANSTON, IL—Delaware experienced a slight drop in industrial employment over the past 12 months according to the 2007 Delaware Manufacturers Register, a manufacturers’ guide published annually by Manufacturers’ News, Inc. (MNI), Evanston, IL. MNI (http://www.manufacturersnews.com) reports the Diamond State lost 451 jobs (less than 1%) from June of 2005 to June of 2006, a moderate loss compared to the heavy jobs losses the state has suffered since 2001.

“Some of the state’s leading industries such as pharmaceuticals and metal fabricating have been affected by consolidation and outsourcing over the past decade,” said Tom Dubin, President of MNI. “Hopefully, these numbers signal an ease to the outflow of those jobs.”

Delaware is now home to 872 manufacturing companies employing 48,238 workers, reports the Register. MNI’s survey profiles both large and small Delaware manufacturers, including start-up companies with just a few employees.

Wilmington remains Delaware’s largest industrial city with 223 companies and 13,905 jobs listed in the 2007 Register. Newark accounts for 132 companies and 8,348 jobs while New Castle represents 92 plants and 4,512 jobs.

Delaware’s top industrial sectors are printing and publishing and metal fabricating, which account for 24% of Delaware’s manufacturers. Delaware’s top industries by employment are poultry slaughtering (5,410 jobs), toilet preparations (5,000 jobs) and motor vehicles and car bodies (4,059 jobs). These industries represent 30% of Delaware’s manufacturing employment.

Detailed information on all of Delaware’s 872 companies can be found in the 2007 Delaware Manufacturers Register, available in print for $60. The 136-page Register provides an in-depth company profile of up to 30 facts, including addresses, phone/fax numbers, web/email addresses, product(s) manufactured, names and titles of key executives, area of distribution, annual sales, number of employees, brand names, year established and more.

MNI’s Delaware data is also available on CD-ROM for $75 to $183. Users may select manufacturing companies using thirteen different criteria, including area or zip code, county, SIC, sales volume, number of employees, title and more. This information can be downloaded at http://www.mnileads.com.
