EVANSTON, IL—Connecticut’s industrial employment indicates signs of recovery after several years of consistent job losses, according to the 2007 Connecticut Manufacturers Register, a manufacturers’ guide published annually by Manufacturers’ News, Inc. (MNI), Evanston, IL. MNI (http://www.manufacturersnews.com) reports the Constitution State lost just 190 jobs (less than 1%) over the past 12 months compared to the more than 20,000 lost since 2002.

“Some of the state’s leading industries such as aircraft assembly, shipbuilding and pharmaceuticals, have been affected by consolidation and outsourcing over the past decade,” said Tom Dubin, President of MNI. “Hopefully, these numbers signal an ease to the outflow of those jobs.”

Connecticut is now home to 6,383 manufacturing companies employing 241,811 workers, reports the Register. MNI’s survey profiles both large and small Connecticut manufacturers, including start-up companies with just a few employees.

MNI’s regional study shows Connecticut ranks 2nd in New England by number of manufacturing jobs and plants. The state accounts for 24% of the region’s manufacturing plants and 23% of its jobs.

Connecticut’s largest industrial city is Bridgeport with 220 companies and 6,052 jobs, listed in the 2007 Register. Stamford accounts for 195 companies and 8,175 jobs.

Connecticut’s top industrial sectors are industrial machinery and equipment and metal fabricating, which account for 34% of Connecticut’s manufacturers. Connecticut’s top industries by employment are aircraft engines/parts, aircraft, and commercial printing. These industries represent 15% of Connecticut’s manufacturing employment.

Detailed information on all of Connecticut’s 6,383 companies can be found in the 2007 Connecticut Manufacturers Register, available in print for $98. The 584-page Register provides an in-depth company profile of up to 30 facts, including addresses, phone/fax numbers, web/email addresses, product(s) manufactured, names and titles of key executives, area of distribution, annual sales, number of employees, brand names, year established and more.

MNI’s Connecticut data is also available on CD-ROM for $150 to $430. Users may select manufacturing companies using thirteen different criteria, including area or zip code, county, SIC, sales volume, number of employees, title and more. This information can be downloaded at http://www.mnileads.com.
