has seen a 2.9% increase in industrial employment over the past two years following the 5.8% drop that occurred in the three years preceding.

. “Over the past couple years the state has enjoyed a steady, if slow, recovery from the downturn of 2001-2003.”
According to MNI
’s regional study, Kansas
ranks 3rd in the Mountain Plains region in numbers of manufacturing jobs and plants. The Sunflower State also ranks 3rd in the region for number of jobs gained over one year.
Wichita remains the state’s industrial leader with 709 plants and accounts for 14% of Kansas
City accounts for 279 plants. Both cities gained plants over the past 12 months.

The top industries by employment are aircraft, aircraft parts and equipment, and meat-packing. These industries represent 52,897 of Kansas
